Christina Applegate Opens Up About Multiple Sclerosis

Christina Applegate got vulnerable about the struggles she’s having as a result of multiple sclerosis.

During a Tuesday broadcast of her podcast “MesSy,” which Applegate co-hosts with fellow actor Jamie-Lynn Sigler, the “Married… With Children” star read letters from listeners. But one, in particular, struck a nerve.

In the letter, the writer stated that her family doesn’t understand her MS diagnosis and why she uses a cane for her mobility. She also confessed to having constant battles with diarrhea and vomiting.

Recognizing the symptoms described in the letter, Applegate described the grim pattern she’s observed in her own body, sharing that if she has a bowel movement, then she automatically starts vomiting.

“When I puke, I get all the pain,” she said.

“Three years since I was diagnosed, I’ve been in the hospital upwards of 30 times from throwing up and diarrhea and pain that is unimaginable,” she revealed. “They’ve done every test known to man on me, put so much radiation into my body from CT scans to everything else.”

Applegate suggested that the listener with MS speak to their doctor about “motility issues,” though she quickly clarified she wasn’t offering medical advice, just a compassionate nudge in the right direction.

“One of the things with MS is it slows down our organs,” she explained.
