How to remove pillow stains without a washing machine – just one item

Pillows annoyingly gather stains even when pillowcases cover them and it can take a lot to make them budge.

For those who find any stains on their pillows and don’t want to go through the hassle of putting them through the wash, experts at bedding brand Dormeo have shared how to do so without using your washing machine.

They claimed that it’s common for your pillow to pick up small stains here and there in between washes, and “there’s no need to worry and throw it in the washing machine each time one occurs”.

The experts said: “This is the best option for memory foam pillows that can’t be submerged in water.”

Once you’ve removed the pillowcase, fill a bowl with warm water and laundry detergent.

Take a clean sponge or cloth and dip it in the water, then gently rub the stain until it lifts. Leave the pillow to dry completely before placing it back on your bed.

For “yellow stubborn stains”, you might want to rub a paste of baking soda and water onto the stain, letting it sit for around half an hour, claimed the experts.

Then, make sure you wipe away any remaining paste once the time is up.

Leaving it to dry and vacuuming with the upholstery attachment might help get rid of any remaining baking soda.

To clean pillows using Allen’s method, start by taking off any pillowcases, covers, or protectors before giving the pillows a generous sprinkle of baking soda. Ensure that both sides are covered.

The next step is to spray the baking soda with the vinegar solution. To make this, mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle.

The reaction between baking soda and vinegar helps “break down odours and lift stains”.
