Crystal Palace’s press conference this afternoon has been cancelled with Roy Hodgson taken ill during the morning’s training session, the Premier League club have confirmed. The former England manager had been due to speak to the media at 1:30pm on Thursday but the briefing will now not go ahead.
A club statement read: “Unfortunately, today’s press conference will no longer take place as scheduled as Roy Hodgson was taken ill during this morning’s training session.”
It comes with speculation mounting over Hodgson’s future. Express Sport understands that the 76-year-old will be dismissed if Palace can agree a deal with former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner.
Hodgson has overseen a run of only three wins in 19 Premier League games. A 3-1 defeat by Chelsea on Monday was Palace’s fourth in five matches, a run that also saw a heavy 4-1 loss against rivals Brighton.
Palace picked up seven points from their opening four matches, building on a summer in which Hodgson had been reappointed and promised supporters that the club would challenge for a top-half finish.
However, a drastic spiral in form and the loss of key players to injury have seen Palace tossed into a battle for their Premier League status. The Eagles are five points above 18th-placed Everton, who they play on Monday.
Hodgson replaced Patrick Vieira last March on a short-term deal and steered relegation-threatened Palace to an 11th-placed finish, winning five and drawing three of his 10 matches. Palace opted to hand the veteran coach a one-year contract last summer over appointing a fresh face.
